George W. Harris was a sailor on the U.S.S. Richmond in the vicinity of Baton Rouge, Port Hudson, and New Orleans, La. The collection contains letters, 30 October 1861, 20 December 1862, and 11 June 1863, to relatives in Philadelphia, Pa., from Harris, concerning military activity on the lower Mississippi River and Harris's commanding officers.
